LUFKIN, TX (News Release) -

Marisa Phillips has been named the new administrator for Buckner Children and Family Services in Lufkin, charged with leading the organization's ministries for vulnerable children and families in Deep East Texas.

Phillips will oversee the operations of Buckner Family Place and Buckner Foster Care and Adoption Services, and the Mary Jo Gorden Child Development Center as well as community programs. She will replace the previous administrator, Judy Morgan as a result of Judy's transition into the role of regional director of Buckner Children and Family Services.

"Marisa's servant heart and desire to better equip families is what motivates her daily actions," said Judy Morgan, regional director for Buckner in East Texas. "She brings with her a wealth of experience and skills that will add a considerable depth to our program."

Phillips comes to the role of administrator after serving in a variety of roles at Buckner, including program therapist, human resources representative, and contract manager. Phillips previously served as a staff therapist and Lufkin center coordinator at Samaritan Counseling Center of East Texas.

"It is so gratifying to be entrusted with this responsibility," said Phillips. "Having worked alongside the exceptional staff in Lufkin for the past twelve years, I have seen the overwhelming generosity of this community during that time and I am confident that Buckner will continue to set the standard for care to children and families in this area."

Phillips received a master's degree in community counseling from Stephen F. Austin and a bachelor's degree in journalism from Texas A&M University. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and is certified by the National Board of Certified Counselors.

Buckner Family Place in Lufkin is part of Buckner International, a global Christian ministry dedicated to transforming the lives of orphans, vulnerable children and families. Buckner has been serving children and families in Lufkin since 1997. Last year in Lufkin, Buckner served more than 308 people through foster care and adoption services, Buckner Family Place, and the TRAIL program (serving youth aging out of Foster Care). Buckner Children and Family Services in Lufkin restores families, supports at-risk children and empowers the community to meet the needs of children and families in crisis.
