HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS ROUNDUP: Jack Kruger hits grand slam to lead Oaks Christian baseball team into Boras Classic title game

Jack Kruger's grand slam highlighted a five-run third inning for Oaks Christian's baseball team, which advanced to the South Regional final of the inaugural Boras Classic with a 5-2 victory Thursday at JSerra.

Despite scattering 11 hits, Harrison Hoff (2-0) secured the victory for Oaks Christian (12-2-1). Hoff added an RBI single for the Lions, who received a double from Austin Sreden and hits from Ty Quolas and Nathaniel Palace.

The Lions will face Mater Dei (13-1) at 6 p.m. today at JSerra. The Monarchs are looking to win their second consecutive tournament after defending their title at the National High School Invitational in North Carolina with a 4-0 victory Saturday over Harvard-Westlake.

In other baseball games:

Alemany 9, Deer Valley 2: Kyle Merkel allowed three hits and struck out 10 to lift the Warriors at the Righetti tournament in Santa Maria.

Terrell Tate had two hits and four RBIs, Gus Mendoza added three hits and two RBIs, with Ryan Alvarez contributing two hits for Alemany (12-3), which advanced to today's championship game.

Sylmar 35, Canoga Park 0 (5 inn.): Gerardo Yanez was 3 for 4 with a home run, double and six RBIs to lead the Spartans to a Valley Mission League victory. Josh Mesa was 2 for 4 with two doubles and three RBIs for Sylmar (7-11, 2-0).

Softball

Royal 9, Buchanan 2 (6 inn.): Lacee Smollen was 4 for 4 with a triple,

two RBIs and two runs to lead the Highlanders to their 12th consecutive victory at the Arroyo Grande tournament.

Samantha Ohmie was 2 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs for Royal (12-1).

Royal posted a 9-0 win in five innings against Cabrillo of Lompoc in its opener.

Rachael Duncan was 2 for 3 with a triple, three RBIs and two runs and Rebecca Duncan pitched a one-hitter, striking out seven for Royal.

Smollen had a double, three RBIs and two runs for the Highlanders.

Lancaster 5, Quartz Hill 4: After Quartz Hill took a 4-2 lead, the host Eagles rallied with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to defeat the Golden League rival Rebels for the first time since 2010.

Tawnee Hegre went 2 for 3 with a run and an RBI for Lancaster (8-7, 4-0), which is tied with Highland (12-1, 4-0).

Elyssa Bramer added two hits, a run and an RBI for the Eagles, who also received RBIs from Taylor Gorski, Niaya Jones and Toni Hutnick.

Taylor Crowder was 2 for 3 with a double for Quartz Hill (8-7, 2-2).

Highland 19, Littlerock 0 (5 inn.): Rachel Garcia doubled twice, homered twice and drove in seven runs for the Bulldogs in the Golden League victory.

Garcia also pitched a one-hitter with 12 strikeouts for Highland (12-1, 4-0), which received three hits and two runs from Tascha Holeman.

Joy Veloz went 5 for 5 with a double, three runs and two RBIs, Sara Jones was 4 for 5 with a double, two runs and two RBIs and Marissa Harmon added three hits, including a double, and two RBIs for the Bulldogs.

Moorpark 12, Newbury Park 0 (6 inn.): Amanda Lorenz and Kaitlyn Wilkens both had two hits and two RBIs for the Musketeers in the Marmonte League victory.

Nicole Pufahl added three hits, including a double, and Alexa Curt also doubled for Moorpark (13-3, 4-0), which also received two RBIs from K.C. Saxe. Rachael Farrington (10-0) and Marisa Claudy combined to allow three hits for Moorpark.

Panorama 18, Reseda 3 (5 inn.): Laura Pacheco was 3 for 3 with two doubles and four RBIs to lead the Pythons to a Valley Mission League win.

Vanessa Alvarez was 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs for Panorama (3-6, 1-2). Xochitl Alvarez was 3 for 6 with a double and three RBIs for the Pythons.

Boys volleyball

Taft 3, Birmingham 0: Steven Shneir had 10 digs to lead the Toreadors to a 25-21, 25-21, 25-17 West Valley League victory. David Akhavan added eight kills and Shahriar Tahvilian recorded 22 assists for Taft (16-5, 3-1).

Granada Hills 3, Cleveland 0: Billy De La Espriella had 20 kills to lead the Highlanders to a 25-16, 25-18, 25-21 West Valley League victory.

Branden Son added 14 digs and Brandon Chu contributed 19 assists for Granada Hills (8-6, 4-0), with . Dylan Levitre recording six blocks.

Verdugo Hills 3, Chavez 0: Joe Arechiga had 17 kills to lead the Dons to a 25-11, 25-16, 25-17 East Valley League victory. Carl Andrew Hernandez added seven digs and Jon Marc Cuyugan contributed 34 assists for Verdugo Hills (6-0, 6-0).

Boys golf

North Hollywood 237, SOCES 321: Julian Roberts shot a 43 to lead the Huskies to a City 5-A League victory played at Balboa Golf Course. Weston Jackson and Tim Kim both added a 46 for North Hollywood (5-0, 4-0).

Boys tennis

Westlake 16, Royal 2: Jeremy Model and Jonah Dennis didn't allow a singles game to lead the Warriors to a Marmonte League victory. Yaung Guo and Andrew Davies swept their doubles sets for Westlake (9-1, 6-1).

Granada Hills 7, Cleveland 0: Ardi Safi, Nick Kerhulas, Russell Wong and Sean Begelfer all swept in singles for the Highlanders (5-1, 4-0 West Valley).

Loryn Voskoboynik and Brian Bonilla won 6-0, 6-2 in doubles, with Michael Gousarov and Sebastian Koh also sweeping, in addition to Arya Afzali and Dustin Wong.
